Dammam University is a university in Saudi Arabia that opened its doors to both women and men in 1975 and has two faculties, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Architecture. The University of Dammam was originally part of King Faisal University (KFU), which was founded by decree of the Islamic calendar in 1395 (AD 1975), with its headquarters in Al Ahasa. The KFU was named after the late King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and was officially inaugurated by King Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on May 24, 1977. At the time of its launch, Daman Campus had only two faculties, Medicine and Architecture and Planning, as well as three centres for English Language, computing and Publishing and Translation.

In September 2009, Daman University was established as a separate entity. In October 2019, the Saudi Cabinet approved the new university system. In July 2020, Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University was selected as one of the three universities, which will be one of the first among Saudi universities to apply the system in the first phase. The new system enables the University to proceed independently in the construction of academic, financial and administrative regulations in accordance with the overall policies determined by the University Affairs Committee.
